Osama bin Laden is dead according to a statement made by U.S. President Barack Obama late on the evening (ET), 1 May 2011. The self-proclaimed party behind the attacks on the United States on 11 September 2001 was apparently attacked and killed by US Special Operations or Intelligence Forces during a mission in Pakistan earlier the same day.

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden has announced where the four shuttle orbiters will be permanently displayed at the conclusion of the Space Shuttle Program.
Shuttle Enterprise, the first orbiter built, will move from the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia to the
Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York. Space Shuttle Enterprise was never flown into space. It was used and flown during unpowered drop tests at Edwards Air Force Base.

The F-35 Lightning II JSF (Joint Strike Fighter) and the first Air Force Airman to fly it is the subject of this military aviation video news story.
A pilot from Edwards Air Force Base, California, became the first Air Force and government test pilot to fly the F-35 Lightning II during a test sortie at the Lockheed Martin facility January 30 at Naval Air Station Fort Worth.
Lt. Col. James Kromberg, the director of operations for the 461st Flight Test Squadron, flew the F-35, numbered AA-1, which is currently flying envelope expansion, flying qualities evaluations, subsystems testing and initial systems assessments at Fort Worth.

Qantas grounded all of its six Airbus A380 superjumbo jets 4 November 2010 after one suffered an explosive engine failure that forced it to make an emergency landing in Singapore.
In a statement, the airline said, "Qantas A380 aircraft operating QF32 from Singapore to Sydney experienced an engine issue soon after take off and returned to Singapore. The aircraft had 440 passengers and 26 crew on board. In line with procedure, the pilot sought priority clearance for its return to Singapore. The aircraft landed safely at 11.45am local time."
Qantas says none of the passengers or crew were injured. The airline also said, "Qantas Chief Executive Officer, Alan Joyce said Qantas would suspend A380 services until we are confident that Qantas safety requirements have been met." |

Army Sargent Victor Gardner reports in this military news video on a CH-47 Chinook air assault into the mountains of Afghanistan to destroy two weapons caches. The mission was carried out by Task Force Rakkasan, Apache Company, 1-33 Cavalry, 101st Airborne Division along with elements of the Afghan National Army.
The CH-47 helicopters lifted the Rakkasans into the hills touching down with a pinnacle landing. On arrival, the weapons and other supplies of the insurgents were destroyed.

Boeing has a new arrow in its quiver of international fighter offerings: a stealthy F-15 they are calling the F-15SE or Silent Eagle.
What's new in this configuration are features that may reduce the aircraft's radar signature relative to earlier model F-15s. The most obvious external change is the new conformal fuel tanks that can carry weapons like the AIM-9 and AIM-120 air-to-air missiles, or, ground attack payloads such as the JDAM and small diameter bomb. The munitions are carried inside the tanks hidden from radar. This according to Boeing in its announcement of the new product.

According to a statement issued by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), there was a crash of a Special Operations U.S. Air Force CV-22 Osprey in southern Afghanistan late on the evening of 8 April 2010, killing three U.S. service personnel, one civilian contractor, and injuring numerous other military personnel. Though the Taliban has apparently claimed responsibility, the actual cause of the crash is unknown. The V-22 Osprey aircraft are built by Bell Boeing. Variants include the CV-22 and Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey.
