Delta and Northwest Airlines Bankrupt on Same Day

Both Delta and Northwest Airlines filed for “Chapter 11” bankruptcy protection 14 September 2005, according to published reports. Rumors had been flying about Delta in recent days, and Northwest was in the middle of a labor battle of epic proportions.

China Southern Airlines Orders 10 Airbus A330s

China Southern Airlines has signed a contract with Airbus today (9/06/05) in Beijing for the purchase of ten additional Airbus A330s, which comprises eight A330-300s and two A330-200s. China Aviation Supplies Import and Export Group (CASGC) was also involved in this deal by signing a GTA with Airbus. The ten A330 aircraft will be delivered from 2007 to 2008. China Southern Airlines already operates four A330-200s on domestic trunk and international routes.

NASA's Spirit Rover Sends New Pictures

Working atop a range of Martian hills, NASA's Spirit rover is rewarding researchers with tempting scenes filled with evidence of past planet environments.

"When the images came down and we could see horizon all the way around, that was every bit as exhilarating as getting to the top of any mountain I've climbed on Earth," said Chris Leger, a rover planner at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Pasadena, Calif.

AZAL Takes Delivery of its First Airbus A319

The Azerbaijan flag carrier “Azerbaijan Hava Yollari” (AZAL) celebrated the delivery of its first Airbus A319 during a ceremony held at Heydar Aliyev International airport in Baku.

This is the first of four A319s, including an Airbus Corporate Jetliner (ACJ), ordered by the State Concern of Civil Aviation (AZAL), all to be delivered before the third quarter of 2006. The airline already operates an A320 under an operational lease agreement.

NTSB Safety Rec's Canadair CL-600-2B19

The National Transportation Safety Board recommends that the Federal Aviation Administration:

Require Bombardier to revise the maintenance procedures for the Canadair CL-600-2B19 so that the aileron freeplay check is accomplished at an appropriate interval that is less than 2,973 flight hours to prevent flight with aileron freeplay greater than the maximum limit. (A-05-21)

Republic Airways Signs $150 Million Deal with GE

EVENDALE, Ohio - August 30, 2005 - Republic Airways Holdings, Inc. has signed a 10-year OnPointSM Solutions service agreement with General Electric Company for the maintenance, overhaul and repair of 110 CF34-8E engines powering the airline's fleet of Embraer 170 aircraft. The 10-year agreement is valued at approximately $150 million.

Space Station (ISS) Status 9/10/05

An unpiloted Russian Progress cargo ship docked to the aft port of the International Space Station (ISS) Zvezda module today at 10:42 a.m. EDT, as the Station flew 220 miles above Central Asia near northern Kazakhstan. The 19th Progress spacecraft to visit the ISS is carrying more than 5,000 pounds of supplies for the crew.

Shenzhen Airlines Places $60 Million CFM56-5B Order

EVENDALE, Ohio - August 26, 2005 - Shenzhen Airlines has become the newest customer for the CFM56-5B, placing an order for engines to power three Airbus A320 and two A319 aircraft. The engine order is valued at $60 million at list price.
