Madrid Plane Crash of Spanair Print
Airline News
Airline News - A Spanair MD-82 has crashed at Madrid's Barajas International Airport with the loss of at least 153 lives. The plane was heading for the Canary Islands and had just departed when the accident occurred.

The plane crash is reported to be the worst in Spain in 25 years. Initial reports indicate some 19 people have survived the crash of Flight JK5022. Spanair is owned entirely by Scandinavian Airlines, though it is based in Spain.

Flight JK5022 crashed on its second attempt to take off from Madrid. A first take off was aborted according to published reports due to problems with an OAT or outside air temperature gauge. After the instrument was repaired the plane departed and crashed. There is no known link between these events at this time.
