Spanair Flight JK5022 Madrid Plane Crash Investigation Print
Airline News - Authorities are beginning the investigation into the catastrophic plane crash at Madrid's Barajas International Airport. More than 150 deaths are reported.

The crash of the Spanair MD-82 took place just as the aircraft began to lift off, according to published and broadcast accounts.

The plane was operating as Flight JK5022 and bound for the Canary Islands.

According to the US NTSB, the plane was flying under Spanish Reg. EC-HFP. Reports indicate that both the Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit Voice Recorder have been recovered, though one of the devices may be damaged.
