Qantas A380 Engine Failure Forces Emergency Landing Print
Qantas grounded all of its six Airbus A380 superjumbo jets 4 November 2010 after one suffered an explosive engine failure that forced it to make an emergency landing in Singapore.

In a statement, the airline said, "Qantas A380 aircraft operating QF32 from Singapore to Sydney experienced an engine issue soon after take off and returned to Singapore. The aircraft had 440 passengers and 26 crew on board. In line with procedure, the pilot sought priority clearance for its return to Singapore. The aircraft landed safely at 11.45am local time."

Qantas says none of the passengers or crew were injured. The airline also said, "Qantas Chief Executive Officer, Alan Joyce said Qantas would suspend A380 services until we are confident that Qantas safety requirements have been met." Video from Indonesia appears to show pieces of the damaged engine that fell from the plane as it was climbing out.
