Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Product Description The Oceanus Women's Atomic Chronograph Watch offers a luxurious combination of sleek, feminine style and cutting edge technology. Featuring multi-band Atomic timekeeping, solar power, and analog-quartz movement, this watch receives calibration radio signals to ensure an accurate time display. Five motors control different movements on its face, which is protected by a sapphire crystal. With a pink dial, three hands, stick indices on each hour, small Arabic numerals marking 15-second intervals, three subdials and a convenient date window at four o'clock, this chronograph combines fashion and function in one chic accessory. Its case, stationary bezel, and band with fold-over-clasp and double-push-button safety are all precision crafted from stainless steel. Unique textured accents on the bracelet band add a distinctive touch to this timepiece, which is water resistant to 165 feet.
Customer Reviews: Great looks, always on time and always full of energy: great traits ... for a watch!March 8, 2009 Rick V(IN) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Background you can skip
I am into watches... I muct have 50 or so, ranging from 80's Orient LED to modern flat Longines and other specialty watches. However, when it comes to wearing: I only wear one watch, my Oceanus OCW-500DA from Japan. Note that this is really UPSCALE Casio. This means SERIOUSLY upscale: there are no plastic parts and buttons. The watch packs some weight and I have been unable to get it scratched.
The reason I wear this watch is because of the key traits outlined in the title of this review: ALWAYS on time (mine can do multiple time zone Atomic server), never out of batteries (solar panel driven, similar to eco drive from Seiko/Citizen) and high quality everlasting components.
While I bought my 600$ + Oceanus I got my wife a Casio G-Shock tough Solar women's watch. That was 3 years ago, and that one gave out (the bank broke and some of the chrome coating came off. This would never happen to the Oceanus.
So I set out to replace hers with the Oceanus model of her choice.
About this watch
It has everything you are looking for in a no-nonsense never think about it again watch:
- It looks really really nice, with a great face in a nice pink tone (its solar panels)
- It is heavy quality stainless. No chromed plastic parts here ad they would put in Casios
- The battery never runs out as it is constantly replenished by light (artificial light as well as sunlight, and even w/o light will run for 6 months in case you're a cave dweller or vampire)
- It is always exactly on time. Great for when you are a commuter: most railroad systems will stick closet ot their schedules and feed off of the same servers. When daylight savings kicks in there is no mistaking!
- Scratch resistant Sapphire glass and high quality band
What else? All the standard features (alarm, chime) from a regular watch as well as intelligent beeping sounds so that you can find the right settings in the dark. A flick-the-wrist-to-trigger-light so you can see in the dark. Illimilight arms so you can see what time it is without the light. Other zone second time setting and so on...
Cons
A little bulky/heavy but that comes with quality and features. Not noticable to others, just to the wearer.
My wife loves it.
Conclusion:
Any of the Oceanus watches is unique in that it pairs SOLAR ENERGY AND ATOM TIME. This is, to me, a must have combination in a watch.
Stay away from the much cheaper Casio's if you can afford it as these will last forever and therefore be a better deal in the long run.
A big Oceanus fan.
Great watchNovember 16, 2009 NHK(CA, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this watch in Japan and have been wearing this everyday for the past 5 years. The surface is still as clean as it used to be when I first saw at a shop. The battery has never died and it automatically shifts to the local time every time I travel between Japan and the U.S. I have 10 more watches, but I have not worn them since I got this. Now my daughter is desperate to have the same watch and I keep telling her to wait for a little longer, until when she is old enough to use the features by herself.
This is the best watch I have ever had and I would recommend it to anyone who can afford it.
love this watchFebruary 21, 2010 there's a problem with your face 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
this is a big, heavy watch. the dial is not as pink as it is in the picture. a dog got ahold of my watch for a couple hours and, while the casing was scratched, the crystal face didn't get a scratch on it. love the solar power and the atomic aspects. this is my 1st oceanus watch and i will never purchase any other brand. i feel like it was worth the price.
Cool geek factor diedOctober 8, 2009 cocoachai(USA) This is a great geek watch that doesn't look geeky! I love the techhie features while still being stylish, the reasons I bought it. But here are the issues:
1) Within the first month, the face of it scratched--it's really not that durable.
2) At first was on time--always to the second. Over time (4 months) the accuracy slipped tremendously such that it was 12 minutes late. I consulted the manual for help, which is one of those manuals that you need an advanced college degree to decipher, and followed the directions to the best of my ability to re-set it. Then with the auto-sync feature, it would re-synch to 12 minutes late. I contacted customer service twice, and was told both times to consult the manual for help (did that, thanks!).
3) Within 6 months the watch stopped entirely.
Although it has great features, this watch does not live up to its claims and was thus a waste of a lot of my money. Save yours and don't buy it.
