Strange booms were heard in California and South Carolina today. Did you see or hear anything?

I heard it (felt it too) in Costa Mesa, CA.  I thought it was the beginning of a big earthquake (a loud jolt).  When it didn't continue into a quake, I knew it was a sonic boom.  I went outside to reassure my startled cats and saw a trail in the sky.  Trails aren't at all uncommon along the coast, but sonic booms are.
