I heard the Navy hit their main target tonight - they struck the dead NSA or CIA or NRO or ? spy satellite. No word yet if they hit the fuel tank full of very toxic stuff.

I've heard lotsa talk about how this will not make the the space debris issue worse but it makes no sense at all how it could not help but make things worse.

I mean do the math:

Missile below + Spy Satellite above.
Missile hits Spy Satellite from below.
Simple inertia from upward mass of missile MUST push debris UP. Right?

We now have the Defense Department video of the full attack on the spy satellite.

From the look of the "fireball" (not really a fireball), it sure looks like debris went in every direction, including up.
